Roots and Rhythms: How Taiwan Inspires My Art
Share
Being a first-generation Taiwanese American is a core part of my identity and my work. Growing up, our frequent trips back to Taiwan were more than just vacations. They were a deep dive into a world of family, history, and incredible food.
The energy of Taipei is something that stays with you. I remember the neon glow of the night markets, the intricate patterns in the temples, and the constant, bustling movement of the city. As a child, I was just soaking it all in. Now, as an artist, I realize those experiences were building my visual vocabulary.
Bringing Taipei to the Canvas
When people ask where my bold color palettes come from, I often think of those trips. The vibrant reds, deep golds, and electric greens of Taiwan are woven into the DNA of JoyousJoyfulJoyness. Knowing where I come from allows me to create with more intention.
My art is a bridge between my American upbringing and my Taiwanese roots. It is a celebration of the resilience and joy I saw in my family and the streets of Taipei. Every time I draw, I am bringing a piece of that heritage to life.
