From Courtrooms to Canvases: My Journey into Art
Share
Did you know that before I was a professional artist, I was a lawyer? It is often a surprise to my followers, but for me, the path made perfect sense at the time.
I majored in Art History at UC Berkeley (Go Bears!). While I loved the visual world, I also discovered a deep passion for analytical writing and logical structure. That combination led me straight to law school and into a career as an attorney. I practiced law for years until I stepped away to raise my two boys.
It was during my time as a parent that I rediscovered the creative spark I had left behind. In my 40s, I decided to take a leap and turn my love for drawing into a second career. I founded JoyousJoyfulJoyness with the goal of bringing color and fun into a world that can sometimes feel a bit too serious.
My background in law still helps me every day. Whether I am managing the logistics of a Kickstarter campaign or helping a charitable cause, that lawyer brain is always active. It turns out that analytical thinking and creative expression are the perfect pair!
What does your career journey look like? Have you ever made a major pivot or discovered a new passion later in life?
